  • Religion
  • Nationality
  • Membership in a Particular Social Group
  • Political Opinions

You may be eligible for asylum that allows you to live and work in this country. Reach out to our firm for a consultation. Over the years, we successfully have assisted hundreds of clients from counties such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Ivory Coast, and Kenya gain asylum.

Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) Status

Adults aren’t the only ones seeking immigration benefits. The child or their guardian can request Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status on their behalf. They do this by filing a petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Minors who have been subject to state juvenile court proceedings for abuse, neglect, abandonment, or a similar basis can apply for lawful permanent residence.

The paperwork and bureaucracy can slow or halt this process. That is why you need legal help from those who deal with these matters every. We can advocate zealously for you as we’ve done for hundreds of other minors throughout the state of Maryland and in the District of Columbia.

U Nonimmigrant Visa

The law provides the means for immigrants who have been the victim of crime to remain in this country. You can do this by applying for a U Nonimmigrant Visa (U-Visa). This visa process offers a path to citizenship. The U-Visa permits you to live in this country for four years. After three years, you can apply for a green card to stay in the United States permanently. After being a permanent resident for five years, you can apply to become a citizen. In addition, family members who qualify may be able to get a U-Visa, too.

To obtain this visa, you must meet three requirements:

  1. You must be the victim of a crime in this country.
  2. You must have cooperated with the police or prosecutors about the crime.
  3. The crime must have hurt you mentally or physically.

Once you meet the above-mentioned legal requirements, you need to file various forms, a personal statement, and evidence to support your claim. These documents must be submitted to the correct agency. The U-Visa requires a great deal of legal knowledge and paperwork before the various levels of approval.
